Berberine inhibits liver enzymes (CYP3A4, CYP2D6, CYP2C9) responsible for metabolizing a large proportion of prescription medications. This creates documented or theoretical interaction risks with statins, blood thinners such as warfarin, diabetes medications and insulin (increased hypoglycemia risk, since berberine itself can lower blood sugar), immunosuppressants such as cyclosporine, and certain blood pressure and heart rhythm medications. Cinnamon and chromium in this formula can also modestly affect blood sugar. These interactions are documented primarily for oral berberine use; because this product is marketed as delivering meaningful amounts of berberine transdermally, we do not assume the patch format is exempt from these interaction risks. Most published clinical research on berberine, cinnamon, pomegranate extract, and chromium has used oral dosing. Independent, peer-reviewed research specifically evaluating transdermal (patch) delivery of these ingredients is limited. Claims about transdermal absorption efficiency in this product's marketing reflect the manufacturer's own representations rather than independent third-party clinical trials.
Weight-Loss Evidence Is Mixed
Large meta-analyses of oral berberine in people with type 2 diabetes have found improvements in blood sugar markers but no statistically significant effect on body weight. This product should not be expected to produce a specific or guaranteed amount of weight loss.
